Wedding Plans Mon

My fiancee and I have been going back and forth on the plans for our wedding next year.  We were originally going to have a big traditional wedding next year on 07/07/07.  After talking with a bunch of our married friends and others, it seemed like a common theme.  They all said “You guys should go away and get married.”, or “Save money and go away.”.  We have talked about that idea before and have been waivering on our decision to do it.  I wanted to and then Desiree did not and then the opposite.  We have finally decided to go away and get married.  We are going to Ocho Rios, Jamaica to get married.  We booked our stay at the all inclusive Riu and we are going to get married right on their beach.  Oh, and we are going to do it this August.  We are going to leave August 10th and we are coming back on August 14th.  They have some great deals going on right now and it only cost us $2100 for the three of us to go.  The wedding is going to cost us like an extra $700 which includes a bunch of stuff like cake, photos. spa stuff, etc.  So far, my two sisters are going, some of my close cousins, about eight of our friends, and her parents.  It should be a good time.  The more the marrier so if you are looking for a great cheap vacation, come join us in August.

I'm a what?

My fiancee needed a new PC.  Her old desktop was constantly blue screening and she wanted a laptop.  I would of liked to get her a tablet but she wasn't too patient with the writing on the TIP.  So what did I end up getting her?  A brand new shiny black MacBook.  That's right, we are proud new Mac owners.  Why did I end up deciding to get a Mac?  Well, first off, she isn't really that patient with computers and she probably couldn't get a job in an IT department anytime soon.  So I wanted to get something that was very easy to work with.  That's the Mac.  She only needs a computer to access the internet, email, and Office applications.  I installed Office for Mac, setup her email in Entourage, and she can use Safari.  I also wanted to get a Mac to test some of the web apps that I am building on Safari.  Finally, I wanted a good deal for my money.  For $1499, we got a dual core laptop with 512 megs of RAM.  Plenty for her and pretty fast for any laptop, especially for the price.

I have to say that I am really impressed with the Mac.  Everything from the packaging to the easy setup is impressive.  It is very fast and nice to look at.  It has froze up a couple of times already so it is not as perfect as those Apple comercials would like to have you believe.  I would recommend this to anyone who has the same requirements.  Now if Apple will just hurry up and release that tablet.

Dave Rocks

Last Thursday (I haven't had time to blog), we went to IKEA in Canton, Michigan.  We needed to look for some things for my soon-to-be step daughter's new room that we are finishing.  We got a buch of things for her room for like under $150.  IKEA rocks.  It has two floors with the first floor mainly of all the inventory.  The second floor contains a bunch of model rooms with all the IKEA furniture and accessories.  You go through the second floor, write down the things that you like and you want to buy and pick them up on the first floor.  It is a really cool setup.  The coolest thing that we got?  Dave.  Dave rocks.  Dave is basically a small table used for laptops.  It allows you to sit in a chair and type away on Dave.

Business in phone book?

I talked with someone from SBC today and he gave me some price quotes for getting my business in the phone book.  I wanted to do this because it is a good form of advertising.  After thinking about it more, I didn't know what type of image that would have on my business.  I don't want this to put me in the same view as the million other people who do “web pages on the side”.  There are a lot of those types of small businesses in the phone book and I really don't want to be associated with them.  On the other hand it will give me more exposure and give more of a genuine business feel to my business.

What do you think?  Do you advertise in the local phone book?  Do you get any business from this?  Do you think companies look through a phone book to find their next consultant?

A new hybrid tablet in the works?

Engadget has some information on a new tablet that is in the works by a Japaneese company called Tatung.  This seems to be a new hybrid tablet that offers a detachable screen from a keyboard.  This could possibly be a great replacement for the outdated and discontinued HP TC1100 that seems to have a lot of hardcore following over the form factor.  I too am a fan of this form factor but I don't know if I could get rid of a convertible after I have grown attached to the convertible form factor.  Hopefully these will be available in the states.  If not, there is always Dynamism.
