Microsoft Stole From Me

Well, not really, but I did loose out on another opportunity.  If you haven't heard, Microsoft released the Beta 1 of Internet Explorer 8 at their annual Mix conference at the beggining of March.  One of the features that are available with the new Internet Explorer is the idea of "activities", as Microsoft calls them, which allows you to perform some context sensitive action based on the content of the site you are on.

I came up with this idea last summer.  To "prove" that I did, here is a screen shot of the OneNote notebook I used to jot down my ideas.  You can see the date/timestamp on the top left corner (click for full version) under the title.

Sprout

You can see that I was going to call it (codename anyway) "Sprout", "Context", or "Connect".  The idea came to me when I was trying to add a bunch of books to my Amazon wishlist from a person's blog.  I had to click on all the links to bring up new windows and then add them to my wishlist.  That was silly and I thought "why should I not just be able to right-click and say "Add To Amazon Wishlist?"".  Then a little "Ajax-y" window would pop up with the results.  Obviously Microsoft thought of the same idea.

Anywho, I am sad that I didn't implement it but Microsoft would of came out with this in IE 8 and my idea would of been all for nothing anyway.  I have to start listening to those little voices in my head a little closer.
